How To Be Content With The Life God Has Promised For You

Have you been learning how to be content with your life and waiting and waiting to discover your purpose? And to be totally honest maybe you’re even thinking what does that even mean?

Or maybe you’re like me and you’ve been doing some serious soul searching lately and practically waving your arms like, “Hey God! I’m here and I’m ready. Show me what you got” but you feel like he’s just not answering you so you’re learning how to be content with the life you’re currently living.

I’ve been desperately seeking God’s purpose for my life and I’ve felt he’s had me in a waiting place and telling me to just BE STILL. As if he’s preparing me for something great that maybe He doesn’t think I’m ready to receive quite yet.

Are you learning how to be content?

If that is you sister, I can relate that it is hard to wait especially when you’re as impatient as I am. It’s hard to accept that you are not in control. But it is also so important to realize that so you can do your part by listening and being obedient because that is your purpose too!

Seasons of waiting are meant for God to shape you and mold you into being ready for the gifts He’s about to bless over you. I promise if you use this time to equip yourself with the tools of the Father you will be so much more confident in your purpose

Your purpose is not lost, it’s not something you still have to find or seek out. It’s already within you waiting for you to discover it. And if you ask Him, God will help you see just what it is that He has already prepared you for.

“I desperately needed to learn how to be content with being still.”

I have found myself in places of constantly searching and seeking that next thing that I hope will bring me peace, joy, and fulfillment in my life, but it never does or not for long. The things of the world only bring temporary joy and often disappointment.

This world and all of its pleasures will never satisfy, but Jesus satisfies the longing soul (Psalm 107:9)

So in the meantime, I have some tips for you if you are in one of these seasons of waiting, praying, and searching…..

Where Christ reveals himself there is satisfaction in the slenderest portion, and without Christ there is emptiness in the greatest fullness. -Alexander Grose Click To Tweet

7 TIPS ON HOW TO BE CONTENT WITH YOUR LIFE

1️⃣ Social media detox

This one is super important when it comes to removing that feeling of overwhelm. Do you ever jump on social media searching for inspiration, but instead find yourself feeling overwhelmed and less than?

It’s so easy to get caught up in scrolling and feeling like you don’t have what it takes, your home isn’t pretty enough, or your wardrobe isn’t big enough. Then as quickly as you were inspired you are left feeling more emptiness and loneliness.

So start your detox by picking one day a week to completely rid yourself of social media. It may feel strange at first but trust me it will be so freeing and refreshing to not be tied to your phone and be able to just live in the moment.

Once you do a day here and there you may decide to go even longer. Whatever you feel you need to get back to being yourself is what is needed.

2️⃣ Declutter your home and devices

After your social media detox, it’s time to declutter your home. Once you start looking for things that you no longer need it will do two things:

  1. Remind you of how many things you do have to be thankful for
  2. Make you feel good about giving things away to people in need

Nothing feels better than doing God’s handy work and giving things to people less fortunate.

Decluttering your devices will also release similar emotions. When you’re going through your photo albums and unused apps it will also trigger you to see things that truly are important. Friends, family, pets, etc. Focus on the things that bring you joy which typically do not hold a dollar value.

PS. If you find yourself constantly comparing yourself to certain accounts on social media that leave you feeling unworthy or not good enough then do yourself a big favor and unfollow them. It’s nothing personal, but if they make you feel unqualified then it keeps you from creating from your zone of genius.

3️⃣ Take an inventory of your blessings

One thing I have learned to do is it take a minute to inventory all the blessings that God has bestowed on you. Some people may do this in the form of meditation.

Release your mind from what is currently causing you anxiety and meditate on what is truly important. This is the perfect time to pray and thank God for all that He has given you.

4️⃣ Start a gratitude journal

If you want to go a step further from meditation, write down what you are grateful for. Then log it in a journal.

During different seasons of life your blessings will change and it’s so cool to look back on. You will see how God has answered prayers in your life. You will also see the things you were grateful for during that time.

5️⃣ Get in the word

This is the single most important tip I can offer. If you only implemented this one tip out of them all you will find so much contentment with where your life is versus where you think it should be.  The Bible is the living word of God. It literally brings God to life in our hands. You want to hear from God? Read the word! We may not always understand His plan, but we can trust that he is working in us and on us. He is preparing us for the blessings to come.

God tells us to rest in Him and there’s no simpler way than by resting in His word and the promises He has made.

6️⃣ Study God’s Promises

I have found myself in places of constantly searching and seeking that next thing that I hope will bring me peace, joy, and fulfillment in my life, but it never does or not for long. The things of the world only bring temporary joy.

7️⃣ Develop deep connections with people

Lately, I’ve been desperately seeking real connections with people, specifically other like-minded Christian women and mamas. The online space can be so full of self-promotion, comparison traps, and people with hidden agendas. If you want to be content with where you are, go beyond looking for things on the internet that you don’t have. Or all the beautiful things on Pinterest that you can never afford. Those things are just ashes and will fade.

Search for true relationships beyond the surface. You don’t have your own community? Create one! Or you are always welcome in ours. This Summer I started an online virtual bible study for women who are seeking things just like yourself. We have virtual coffee chats and share inspiration and bible journaling tips etc. It’s an amazing community and open to everyone!
