Living My Best Life
This year I decided to start working on living my BEST LIFE. I knew I needed to work on being healthier for myself and my kids, but being healthy means so much more than just working out, right?
It also means working on your emotional, spiritual, financial, and mental health as well. And using clean, chemical free products. It’s time to GO GREEN and get crunchy!
As a clean living, crunchy mama newbie, I knew I needed to do some research and find out what products would work best for my family. What I discovered is that so many companies that claim to be clean and chemical free are not as clean as you think.
This got me really thinking for those out there that are using products they think are toxic free. So I’ve combined by Top 5 Tips for other mamas out there who are making the change for their families.A healthy lifestyle not only changes your body, it changes your mind, attitude, and mood. Tip #1: Take Baby Steps
One of the best tips I can give someone who is wanting to start replacing their daily household and personal care items with clean, non-toxic products is to take baby steps. Replacing everything you use on a daily or weekly basis can be overwhelming to say the least.
Start with one item at a time. I personally replaced my hand soaps and hair care first. Then, I slowly moved on to skin care items, toothpaste, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, deodorant, and cleaning products.
It was NOT an overnight switch. It took time and money, but thankfully I found the Amazon Prime of clean, chemical free products. They also have a smart ship option so my frequently used products ship automatically every month and saves me money! Win win! If you want to check out the holy grail of affordable clean products, SHOP HERE and you’ll also get $10 off your first purchase with 3 day shipping.
Tip #2: Do Your Research
Once you actually start making the switch to all clean, chemical free and non-toxic products make sure you are utilizing your resources. This will make product choice selection so much easier. One resource I frequently reference is The Environmental Working Group. I mostly use their Skin Deep guide and their Guide to Healthy Cleaning. This is my products BIBLE and I even downloaded their app on my phone!
Another resource I love to use is the Think Dirty app! This app allows you to scan bar codes on products and it breaks down the ingredients and RATES them in terms of level of Carcinogenicity, Developmental & Reproductive Toxicity, and Allergenicity & Immunotoxicity.
The cool and convenient thing about the Think Dirty App is that you can easily search for products in their very large Database of close to 260,000 products. If you’re like me you’ll IMMEDIATELY start scanning EVERYTHING in your cabinets.
Tip #3: Pay Attention to Ingredients
Once you start paying attention to those scores from the EWG and Think Dirty apps, you’ll start noticing which ingredients to stay away from. Here’s a list of some of the ingredients that I will NEVER use:
-PEGS (Polyethylene glycol,
ingredients that contain PEG)
-Fluoride based ingredients
-Aluminum based antiperspirants
-Artificial colors and flavors (dyes)
-Fragrances that are not derived from natural essential oils
Once you start recognizing ingredients like the ones listed above it will become easier to identify which products to stay away from. The two apps listed above really help with this process.
Tip #4: Find Good/Clean Products You Can Stand Behind
Finding clean, chemical free products that you can actually standing behind and feel safe putting in your home is monumental. Like I stated before, some products I thought were clean were actually full of toxins. Make sure you’re doing your research.
After researching many brands, I finally found the one stop shop for clean, chemical free and non-toxic products. The best part is that they’re so affordable. It’s like the Amazon Prime of clean living and all first time customers get $10 off or you can get additional savings with adding your items to smart ship and save. Once I tried a few of their products, I was HOOKED!
You can SHOP their products HERE!
Tip #5: Remember Being “Healthy” Is So Much More Than Just Physical Fitness
“A healthy lifestyle not only changes your body, it changes your mind, attitude, and mood.”
The word “health” encompasses so much more than just the physical state of being healthy. As previously discussed, to be in an overall state of health we are talking about being financially, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally healthy as well. It’s more than just a fad, it’s a complete lifestyle change.
Your health is an investment. Being “healthy” is something I’ve work years on achieving. I’m just now feeling like I’m starting to understand what it means to be in an overall state of health. It all started with me wanting a change and wanting to be a better mom and a better wife.
You can start at living a healthier, cleaner life by taking just ONE step and making the switch.
