7 Ways To Be The Hands And Feet Of Jesus
1. Take them a meal or invite them over for a meal
One really awesome way to bless someone is to lighten the load and take someone who may be in need a meal. I bet if you think about it you can come up with a list of names of either single moms or dads, grandparents raising young grandchildren, someone who just lost a job, someone with health problems, or a just a hardworking mama who needs a break. What a better way to be the hands and feet that by serving someone else? Make sure to call in advance to check in and see if it’s okay to drop by or invite them over. I love making quick easy meals like lasagna, creamy chicken bake with ritz crackers, or taco soup.
2. Send a card or write a letter
There’s no better feeling than getting a handwritten letter in the mail from someone who took the time to check in on you. Buy a pack of blank cards from the store and set a goal of sending out 3 a week. Get back in touch with family or friends who could use a pick me up. I know all those grannys out there would just love to receive a card to know they’re not forgotten. (I’m gonna take my own advice on this one.)
3. Drop in for a visit
Drop by a friends house or family members house. I know often times it can be seen as rude to show up unannounced, but sometimes those are the best visits. I personally think I’d have to overlook my messy house if a friend showed up because they were in the neighborhood and thinking of me. Those kinds of acts just don’t happen in today’s fast paced world. I’m usually lucky if I remember to put on deodorant before I run out the door in the morning. So if you are already doing acts like these then kudos to you for actively being the hands and feet of Jesus.
4. Pray with them (not just for them)
Okay okay I get it. If this one makes you nervous then maybe it’s time to pray about being confident in prayer. I used to get hung up on this one all the time. I really had to work on being confident in praying out loud before I was able to do it too. It’s so easy to tell someone you’re praying for them and also so powerful so don’t think I’m saying that’s not as important. However praying with someone or over then can move mountains. God called us to be bold in our faith and to be the hands and feet which also means being confident in praying with our brothers and sisters. If you feel led by the Holy Spirit then step into that and grab their hand and pray WITH them.
5. Buy them a coffee
Another simple way to be the hands and feet of Jesus is to buy someone a cup of coffee. I mean who doesn’t like coffee? My favorite coffee just so happens to come in individually packets so I also like to mail these out with my handwritten letters at times. Another idea is to purposefully go inside a local coffee shop and pay for the coffee of the person behind you. And if you don’t like coffee, we cant be friends. Ha! Just kidding.
6. Offer to do someone a favor
Offering to do someone a favor is a simple way to bless someone’s day. Maybe you could offer to babysit someone’s kids so they can have a much needed date night. We love doing this especially for couples who maybe can’t afford a babysitter. Or maybe offering to help someone catch up on cleaning or laundry. I can’t even tell you how many times I would’ve taken someone up on that. Heck I would now LOL
7. Serve Your Local Community
There are so many ways to get plugged in and serve others in your local community. I would start with your church and see what ways you can serve there. If you like to work with youth you could contact the school board or district office and find out what needs they have in the school system. You could also reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce and find out what others areas in your community could use volunteers. There are plenty of opportunities that you could serve in as the hands and feet of Jesus.
